Sleep Number ® Down Alternative Pillow
Pillow is already lumpy
I bought 2 soft alternative down pillows 29 days ago. They are already lumpy and very uncomfortable to sleep with. I was going to exchange them (since it has been less than 30 days), but Sleep Number does not have any highly rated pillows. Their down pillows do not have any ratings, and cost over $150. I am definitely not going to spend extra money on a pillow that I am not confident will be comfortable for the long term. I am very disappointed that the pillows I bought are already lumpy, and they were not cheap!

Very average, very expensive.
I usually buy pillows at a big box store for less than $10. Since I like them thick and very firm, I have to replace them in 4-5 months. My wife gave me this one for as a gift thinking it would really last. I had to replace it 4 months later. The replacement cost $8 and is performing every bit as well as Sleep Number's.

I like this!
My first Select Comfort pillows. I got one soft for sleeping (I was used to down so I like soft) and one in medium for propping. I have them covered with the wonderful cool pillow protectors and am very happy!

Surprised to read the bad reviews
I have had these pillows for quite a few years, at least 5, and have not had the problems described by others. We wash and dry our pillows in our Bosch Nexxt washer and dryer regularly and have not noticed any reduction in loft.
The reason I am writing this review is because my daughter called today to find out what kind of pillows they were so she could get some. When I checked the website I found these bad reviews.
I can't explain why others have had problems. Maybe it is just a matter of caring for them properly.

Trial Period is Too Short
i bought two King pillows in medium firmness for my wife for Christmas. She gets neck pains while she sleeps and has been looking for a good pillow for a while. She received them at Christmas and put them on our bed in early January. In late January, they were starting to swish down and not offer much support. Called today and we missed the 30 day trial period, so no return or partial credit. I think for $100 pillows the return period should be longer. Going to order two firm pillows and try them out with a time clock running, so we can return if we do not love them.

Pillow Flattens Quickly
I've purchased 2 Down Alternative pillows on separate occasions and both in the medium height. I've had headaches throughout my life, and most have occurred in the mornings after I wake. These down alternative pillows are the most comfortable pillows I've used and they have helped me wake up in the mornings without headaches.
That being said, I believe the down alternative filling is made of poor quality and does not hold its plushness well at all. I bought my first pillow and had to buy a replacement after a year. Roughly 9 months after, the second pillow flattened and once again, I had to purchase a THIRD pillow. Though I made the switch to the down alternative Pillowology pillow, I found that the Pillowology pillow lost its plushness in less than a year as well. The pillows were all very lofty when I first purchased them, however, they quickly flattened. This leads me to believe that the down alternative filling doesn't last very long and that I'd have to replace the pillow every 9-12 months.
Though I am disappointed with the quality of the product and it's inability to withstand any wear and tear, the pillow is comfortable which is why I've purchased 3 of them. I can't recommend this pillow as it has poor value for someone who is looking for a comfortable and long lasting pillow.

Regular pillow just more expensive
I purchased the down alternative, medium firm, same as "firm" pillow in today's on line description; 3 sections, a little over a year ago. I tried it in the store and it was very comfortable and supportive and the sales person assured me it was the best pillow for side/back sleepers, and that it would retain its comfort/loft over time. That was not true. The pillow began to slowly flatten out in about 3 months. I kept it covered with two pillowcases so it would not become soiled and only used it at night to sleep on or with another pillow, the other pillow on the bottom, when reading in bed. I never washed the pillow because I did not want to put my personal pillow into a commercial, public washer. Today, I looked up the 5 yr warranty and as expected, it does not cover "loft." The on line representative's only recommendation was to wash the pillow in a commercial washer, even though Sleep Number says to wash the pillow as infrequently as possible.
This is not one of the company's most expensive pillows and since I received a 50% discount when I purchased it, I can't really complain. However the fact is this pillow is really just an ordinary pillow that starts out well, but will have to be replaced within 6 months to 1 year, like any pillow from a big box store or regular department store. It just costs more in the beginning, so I personally, would hesitate to buy one of Sleep Numbers more expensive pillows incase they too are just regular but pricey. And yes, the warranty does cover things like the seams, but I have never purchased a pillow that had bad seams or problems with construction; it's the loft, comfort, and support that I'm concerned about and for me, this pillow was not worth the price.
