Sleep Number ® PlushFit ™ Choice Gusset Foam Pillow
The other view states that these pillows are hard - they are. Anyone that knows memory foam should realize that body heat and time will break down the cellular structure of the foam and it will "break in" and soften over time. I always buy high quality memory foam products that are initially too hard, trusting in the fact that over time they will break in and become perfect. This is exactly what I have found with this pillow - it is an all star.
I also am keeping an eye on if memory foam will reach a softening saturation point - which I think it does. In this case, I do think that my pillow has reached this point and it will not break down any more over time. I have had it for about a year and it took about 45 to 60 days to begin to break in. Since then, its been heaven.
If you like firm memory foam products this pillow is for you. The worst experience a person can have is make an educated decision to buy a memory foam product, especially a bed, based on how it feels in the showroom. After it breaks in, you will be uncomfortable, tossing and turning at night because it has become too soft. Always buy a new memory foam product more firm than you like it and trust that it will break in over time to be the perfect fit.

Pillows are hard
I have had 2 foam pillows from sleep number for the past 10 years, so wife and I decided on getting new pillows. We got the Gusset foam pillows because it was the same thickness as the old ones, but beware. These Gusset Foam pillows are pretty hard to our liking. We gave it 2 weeks of trying them out, but in the middle of the night I couldn't take it any more and went back to the 10 year old pillows and slept so much better. Sleep number says I can't return only exchange them, now I have $200 worth of pillows going to waste. We couldn't try these pillows in the store because the stores do not stock king size, I don't think its fair that I can't return an item that I couldn't sample. Sounds like to start taking my business elsewhere. I have had 2 sleep number beds so I figure go with their pillows again but these pillows are not for us.
