Do I need a base?

A Sleep Number bed requires a firm flat surface to evenly support the air chambers inside your bed. A traditional box spring does not provide the support required for a Sleep Number mattress. The firm solid surface offered by our Integrated Base, a FlexFit Smart Adjustable Base or a platform bed is the ideal surface for your Sleep Number mattress.

Will a Sleep Number mattress fit with my existing furniture?

Sleep Number mattresses come in all standard industry mattress sizes and will fit into traditional frames and furniture sets. FlexFit Smart Adjustable Bases can stand-alone or be placed inside of your freestanding bed frame.

Industry standard sizes include:

  • Twin: 38inches x 75inches
  • Twin Extra-Long: 38inches x 80inches
  • Full/Double: 54inches x 75inches
  • Queen: 60inches x 80inches
  • King: 76inches x 80inches
  • California King: 72inches x 84inches

How do I control the bed?

A Sleep Number bed is controlled through the use of either the remote feature in the SleepIQ app or a Sleep Number remote (sold separately). Through these, you can find or adjust your Sleep Number setting, adjust the position of your FlexFit Smart Adjustable Base and control your accessories, including under-bed lighting and foot warming.

What is the difference between a FlexTop King and Split King mattress?

Our exclusive FlexTop King or FlexTop California King size mattresses will have a split just at the head so you can raise and lower the head of your bed separately, but the foot of your bed will move as one. Our Split King or Split California King size mattresses will have a split down the full center so you can raise and lower the head and foot of your bed separately on each side.

Can I try the beds before I buy?

Yes! We have over 500 Sleep Number stores, and you will only find a Sleep Number bed in one of our stores. Unlike other manufacturers, we do not sell our beds through other mattress retailers. One of our sleep professionals would be happy to help you find your Sleep Number setting and help you find the bed model that’s best for you.

Do I need Wi-Fi in my bedroom?

Yes, to get your SleepIQ® score and see your data, the SleepIQ® system needs to be connected to the internet via Wi-Fi. Bed controls may be operated via Bluetooth if Wi-Fi is not available.

Can I turn off SleepIQ technology?

You can turn it off any time through your Sleep Number® remote, SleepIQ® app or SleepIQ® website. In the SleepIQ® app, go to Settings, Bed Settings & Troubleshooting and open the individual sleeper profile. By turning the Privacy Mode toggle to “on,” you’ll stop SleepIQ® from collecting data. From your remote, press the Home button and hold for 2 seconds. You’ll be asked if you’d like to turn off SleepIQ.® It will stay off until you turn it back on.
