Our In Balance Layer is quilted, and contains a fill of 4 oz. per square yard of 100% RELY™ antimicrobial polyester fill. The total height of the Layer will vary because of this fill, but will be in line with a standard quilted mattress pad.

While our In Balance Layer doesn't need any additional mattress pads underneath it, we do recommend using it as the top-most layer in your bed, directly below the fitted sheet, so that the In Balance material is in as direct contact with you as possible. That way, you will be able to experience the full benefits of the temperature balancing material that the In Balance Layer offers.

Hi Jason, thanks for posting your question about the care instructions for our In Balance Layer. I'd be more than happy to help answer this for you.

The care instructions for our In Balance Layer call for you to machine wash the Layer on a gentle cycle in warm water, and tumbling the Layer dry on a low setting for 2-3 cycles to ensure the fill in the Layer is completely dry. We recommend you do not bleach, dry clean, iron or steam the In Balance Layer.

Our In Balance™ products work by absorbing excess heat when you're sleeping warm and releasing that heat when your body temperature dips during the night, so the heat you generate won't be wicked from one side to the other. This product can definitely be used with a heated mattress pad, but it may not be as effective at helping balance your temperature while you're actively heating the bed.

The In Balance Layer is a great addition to any mattress pad, featuring both antimicrobial RELY™ polyfill and our unique and innovative Outlast® temperature balancing material to help you sleep cool, but it does not offer any protective qualities to the bed.

If you're looking to protect the mattress, particularly from stains, we recommend adding one of our Total Protection Mattress Pads to the bed as well. It offers Nanotex technology, a waterproof back and antimicrobial fiber fill to help keep your bed safe from stains and spills, and can be used together with any of our other mattress pads and layers.

The In Balance Layer is available in a number of sizes, including the FlexTop King and Eastern King. While both of these sizes are made to the same 76" by 80" measurements, the FlexTop King will be split at the head in order to allow the head of the bed to be raised and lowered independently on each side.
