PRESENTING SLEEP HEALTH INSIGHTS AT IEEE EMB

00:00 / 00:01

IEEE EMB Presentation —

A model characterizing the coupling between slow-wave activity (SWA), instantaneous heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) during sleep.

1. OBJECTIVE

We investigated the relationship between HR and HRV (measured by ECG), and SWA (measured by EEG), during sleep.

2. HIGH LEVEL STUDY SETUP

Polysomnography (PSG) was used to collect sleep metrics from 45 self-reported healthy sleepers. PSG signals were used to model the interaction between SWA (EEG-derived) and HR/HRV (ECG-derived).

3. RESULTS

This study indicates that SWA may be approximated by cardiac metrics which can be estimated through unobtrusive and contact-free means.
