As an Official Crucial Catch Partner of the NFL, Sleep Number is committed to cancer prevention and the fight against cancer by providing prevention tools like The Defender presented by Sleep Number®.

Crucial Catch was started by the NFL in 2009 to empower fans to take their health into their own hands through cancer screening, education and risk detection, and Sleep Number is bringing additional cancer prevention resources to the Crucial Catch program.

By taking The Defender quiz, you can asses your risk for cancer, receive personal prevention tips and find local screening resources. As a thank you, upon completion of The Defender presented by Sleep Number, participants will receive $20 off a Sleep Number® pillow online or in stores, good through October 31, 2023.*

“Championing cancer detection and prevention initiatives through The Defender is closely tied to Sleep Number’s purpose: to improve the health and wellbeing of society through higher quality sleep,” said Shelly Ibach, Chair, President and CEO, Sleep Number. “We know that simple lifestyle changes - like prioritizing sleep - can have a meaningful impact on risks for certain types of cancers. Sleep Number is proud to join the NFL and ACS in the fight against cancer. It takes all of us to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.”

Sleep Number and Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott teamed up to surprise a very deserving individual as part of this year’s Crucial Catch initiatives.

Dr. Patricia Rodriguez was invited on a VIP tour of the Cowboys facilities and was surprised by Prescott, who presented her with a Sleep Number® smart bed, Super Bowl tickets and some Cowboys swag.

Dr. Rodriguez is a colorectal cancer screening champion who works tirelessly to improve screenings among underserved individuals. As an NFL Crucial Catch CHANGE grant partner, she practices medicine with a focus on improving health equity and eliminating barriers to care.

The powerhouse partnership between American Cancer Society and Sleep Number kicked off in February 2022 with the announcement of a landmark study on the connections between cancer and sleep.

Over the next several years, ACS may utilize Sleep Number’s 22 billion hours of longitudinal sleep and biometric data alongside data from ongoing cancer prevention studies. The goal is to determine the effects of sleep on cancer prevention and recovery, in hopes of developing the first-ever sleep guidelines for cancer.

Sleep Number also provides smart beds and other sleep innovations to American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Communities to help patients and caregivers get the quality sleep they need while they undergo treatment away from home.

“When people face a cancer diagnosis, one of the most common barriers to receiving timely, high-quality care is actually access to lodging," said Dr. Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer, American Cancer Society.

For Sleep Number's support of ACS's mission via joint research, funding and support of its Hope Lodges, Sleep Number was named American Cancer Society's 2022 Corporate Partner of the Year and a Game Changer honoree.

Sleep is vital when it comes to recovering from cancer, and for those still fighting. According to ACS, poor sleep quality may be associated with the risk of developing some types of cancer and sleep quality is a documented problem for cancer patients and longer term in cancer survivors.

The National Cancer Institute (part of the National Institutes of Health) estimates that as many as half of cancer patients have trouble sleeping, whether that's from stress, pain, cancer treatment or a number of other factors.

Like diet and exercise, quality sleep is essential for optimal wellbeing and performance. Because everyone's sleep needs are different, Sleep Number® smart beds, with SleepIQ® technology inside, sense your movements and automatically adjust firmness, comfort and support to keep you both sleeping comfortably. Find your Sleep Number® setting for your best possible night's sleep.
